RN&R 07 Best
of Northern Nevada
|
|
RN&R 07 (a Reno publication which
comes out weekly) has published their Best of Reno. This is a accumulation
of various activities throughout Reno and Northern Nevada that the readers
vote on yearly. I'm certain many have seen the "Best of Reno" when they
enter certain establishments around town. This year, under the Best of Youth
Sports programs, AYSO was voted as number 3. With the large amount of sports
programs in the area,
this is a great pat on the back to all of us. Great Job! Please click

Reno gazette journal Editorial
|
|
An editorial appeared in the Reno
Gazette Journal in reference to the new referee credit requirement this past season 2007 that the league implemented,
on November 20, 2007. If you would like to read
the article, please click here for an adobe version of the article. You may also go directly to the RGJ site to view it as well:

Many teams did not qualify to play in the placement tournament due to
their teams not fulfilling the referee credits required by the league.
It is my hope that this will not be the case for the 2008 season.

There's is still a great deal of
candy out with parents. If you have candy monies to turn in, please
contact rc@ayso710.org . The
short-fall on candy sales and the large amount of outstanding candy
monies is going to have a serious impact on registration fees next year.

Monthly board meetings are held at the Raley's Community Center in Golden Valley. The community center is
located inside Raley's, at the back of the store, to the right of the
Raley's pharmacy. Board meetings are held every third
Thursday of the month.
Board meetings during non-season play begin
at 7:00 p.m. All requests for public comment on a particular subject must be
received in writing to the Regional Commissioner,
rc@ayso710.org , prior to the
publication of the monthly agenda (distributed 1 week prior to each
board meeting). Any requests received after such publication will be
placed on the next month's agenda. Changes to a monthly board meeting
date will placed on the calendar page. |

University of
Nevada, Reno - Women's Soccer Update |
|
In years past, the youth of AYSO
have been allowed to attend the University of Reno, Nevada's women's
soccer league games; however, they now require that the league
organization make a significant donation to their league in order for
the children of that league to attend their games at no charge. This
league is a non-profit league which makes every attempt to keep costs
down for our participants. Therefore, the players in AYSO Region 710
will no longer be able to attend these UNR soccer games at no charge.

Soccerfest 2006 |
| Soccerfest 2006, held on August
12th was a roaring success. This region would like to extend our
heartfelt thanks to Cathy Goodfellow and her Soccerfest team for putting
together a fun day for all! We would also like to extend a HUGE thank
you to Linda, Rob Pierce and family for the excellent job they did
organizing the fundraiser and the collection, as well as streamlining
the pictures! Thank you to all the volunteers that helped put on this
event in so many different ways: setting up, cooking, serving, pictures,
fundraiser collection, manning booths, parking, games and so many other
positions. This region could not and would not be able to put on such a
huge event without the help of so many volunteers! There are a few
pictures up from Soccerfest day, please click on the link to be directed
to the page, Soccerfest Pictures Please visit our
Kindly Sponsor page for a list of all
the companies and individuals that so kindly donated towards our
Soccerfest Event. |

Lightening Storms |
| Many of our coaches and parents
may feel our policy concerning lightening storms seems a bit stringent.
This is a link to a news story that took place last week concerning four
teens playing soccer, two of which were struck by lightening and died:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13991790/ If you
can see any lightening in the sky, no matter the "distance" from you,
the practice/game/scrimmage is over! |

2006 Playoffs - Rules U-10 through U-16 Division |
|
The Regional Commissioner apologizes for not being able to get the Rules
posted for the 2006 Tournaments. The region, this past November, had a
parent step up to fulfill this position, but was unreachable when the
season began. This region has had to deal with many issues this season
that became very time consuming to the few parents that have helped run
this region and many things were left undone. The board does the best it
can, but without more help to run this region, many things will fall to
the wayside. Since we do not have anyone to run the tournaments, myself
and the Referee Administrator have done our best. We have focused
primarily on referees to referee every tournament game, which has been
difficult with only a pool of 12 people to draw from and needing enough
referees every Saturday to referee over 40 games. Therefore, since
playoff rules were not published, we will default to last years playoff
rules. Please click on this link
PLAYOFF RULES . Also, I
realize that there have been some games where one team was late for the
game and in previous years, this game would be forfeit. However, also
due to a shortage of volunteers to help with the board, a board member
took over the scheduling at the last minute and unfortunately, there
were many comedy of errors that occurred with the scheduling. A program
to create schedules created utter chaos when we tried to combine our
playing with another region. Evidently the program was incapable of
dealing with this. A manual change was done, but then our website got
corrupted and unknown to us, when our provider did the restore of the
system, it pointed back to the incorrect schedules (something which we
didn't realize until this weekend). Since the schedule has been an issue
over the past month and a half, I feel that I could not possibly
penalize teams for showing up late for a game. Again, I personally
apologize to everyone and can only ask and make a plea that we will need
help next season. All board positions will be vacant and I am asking
everyone to please lend a hand so we can put on a 2007 season. As far as
standings, the Referee Administrator will be going over the game cards
with me Monday night, October 2nd and I will attempt to get standings up
on the website by October 3rd.
(correction on this last part. The Referee Administrator will need to
focus on family for next few days, so we hope to have standings up
before the weekend).

REFEREES & PLAYOFFS |
|
Referee participation decreased in September, making it almost
impossible to have referees on every playoff game. There will be no
final playoff day on October 14th. The region will be having the awards
ceremony on October 14th and requests that all teams in the U-10 through
U-16 division be present for the awards ceremony at 4:00 p.m. held on
the girls U12/16 fields. Medallions will also be handed out at this time
with return of equipment by all of the coaches. The sportsmanship
trophies will be awarded at this time as well, and there will be a
surprise bonus for the U16 divisions this year. Please contact
Jennifer Mustain at
referee@ayso710.org if you are interested in becoming a referee for
the 2007 season, this region would really like to be able to put on a
final playoff day. Referees are extremely important in assuring that our
children are kept safe and uninjured during game play!
